Dr Dominic Deane Senior Researcher | Creative Practitioner | Educator
Dr Dominic Deane works at the intersection of inclusive research, media production, sound, and creative pedagogy. He develops inclusive, evidence-based resources and media that support neurodiverse participants, grounded in accessibility, lived experience, and collaborative practice.
With over 20 years of experience across music, film, multimedia, and education, Dominic bridges creative practice, research, and teaching. He has taught at the University of Leeds, Leeds Beckett University, Leeds City College, Arts University Plymouth, and Spirit Studios (Manchester). His PhD research explored DIY and independent live music scenes in Leeds and has been published internationally, with presentations at conferences across Europe and Australia.
As a musician and sound practitioner, Dominic has recorded, performed, and toured internationally. He has played in multiple bands, promoted gigs, and run a DIY record label. His creative work has been featured by the BBC, Channel 4, E4, The Guardian, The Independent, and Electronic Sounds, with film and sound credits at Sheffield Documentary Film Festival, Leeds International Film Festival, London Fringe, and The Exeter Phoenix.
His directorial debut short film, Something I Want You to Know, explores a close friend’s late-stage ADHD diagnosis and was selected for the 2026 Sheffield Documentary Film Festival. The film was commissioned by Doc Lab at The Exeter Phoenix, with release scheduled for January 2027.
At Exeter Phoenix, Dominic delivers bespoke Adobe Creative Cloud courses and leads film practice masterclasses and workshops, mentoring emerging filmmakers through hands-on creative projects.
Dominic’s work is driven by inclusivity, creative autonomy, and socially engaged media-making, combining academic insight with hands-on practice to create accessible, meaningful, and culturally grounded projects.
